Chapter 7 Activity: Manifest Destiny

If you were alive in the 19^th century, do you think you would have believed in "Manifest Destiny"?  Do you believe in it today? 

If you do not believe that white Americans in the 19^th century had a "divine mission" to settle the land from the Atlantic to the Pacific, what should be done to make amends? 

Should the land be given back to the descendants of the indigenous peoples who lived there? 

How different would this country be today if the European settlers had co-existed with the native population? 

How different would it be if the United States had not gone to war with Mexico in the 19^th century?  Do you think the United States would still be a superpower? 

Brainstorm the pros and cons of what Manifest Destiny has meant to the US.
